Most people know I landed a job working that cameras at a national television shopping network here in Canada. If you just read that and you didn't know, then that's news for you ;).So far the job is fun and I am slowly learning how to work with a team, because you know me, I'd like to be everything when it comes to a production.

So after the training and real work I've done I've found out a few things:

1. Standing on my feet for 8 hours does a number on my back and on the arches in my feet. I solved this problem by going to Wal-Mart and purchasing some Dr. Scholl's Dyna Step shoes. Even though those shoes are commercial orthodics, they work wonders. This past weekend I worked three days straight with nothing hurting at all, but the uncomfortability of just standing.

2. People in production talk a lot during shows and it's fun! Everyone in production has a headset and mic. When I was training the Assistant Director was reading some Trivia Pursuit questions while we were filming a boring show about huge traveling luggage. At other times, people would go on their own conversations while everyone was waiting for their directions from the Technical Director. So the next time you watch a news program or a television show, just imagine how much chatter goes on behind the scenes.

3. The nicest people on air are actually asses in real life. Normally there are three personality stages people have: Home, Work and Phone personality. If you happen to be on television there's a fourth and that's Television personality.

4. Don't mess with Bob. End of story.

So, yeah that's sort of an update of my life so far. I kind of feel a sense of pride with people ask me in class what I plan to do for work after graduation. When I tell them I work for a television network they are always intrigued. I always tell them stories about chatter behind all the scenes. So far I see myself working for this network until I have learned all that I need to know so I can extend my services to other aspects of production. It's the first time in my life I found a job that I enjoy doing. It's a stress reliever to know that I will never go back to customer service ever again. The torture of dealing with customers for four years almost broke my spirit.

Now, all I have to do is learn this trade and hope.
